How Does Six Month Smiles Treatment Work?

Like more traditional braces, Six Month Smiles uses gentle force to move your teeth into their correct positions. Like braces, your dentist will apply brackets and wires to your teeth, and you’ll visit our office for periodic adjustments. They will blend more easily into your smile though, because brackets are clear and the wires are tooth colored.

Will It Straighten My Smile?

The only way to know for sure is to visit our office for a consultation. That said, Six Month Smiles treatment is typically used to remedy cosmetic problems with your “social six,” the teeth in the very front of your mouth that are in the spotlight when you smile. If you have more complex orthodontic issues involving the need to modify your bite, we may recommend a different type of treatment for you.

Does It Really Work in Six Months?

Yes, it usually does! Six months is the average length of time. It may take slightly less time or slightly more, depending on the condition of your smile. Most cases are completed in four to nine months.

Does Six Month Smiles Treatment Hurt?

You will experience the same issues with minor discomfort as you would with traditional braces. That is, you may have some sore spots in your mouth at first until you become more accustomed to wearing the braces. You also may have some minor aches, often right after the wires are adjusted. Fortunately, it’s easy to deal with this discomfort.

We suggest these measures for relief:

  • Using dental wax to cover bits of hardware that are causing uncomfortable friction
  • Applying a topical product like Orajel or Anbesol to your teeth and gums
  • Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen
  • Applying ice or drinking ice water
  • Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water
  • Sticking to soft foods right after an adjustment

How Much Does It Cost?

You can expect to pay at least $3,500 for your Six Month Smiles treatment. Your dentist can give you a specific cost estimate after examining you and discussing your smile goals. In some cases, insurance may cover part of the cost. We are happy to create a payment plan for you, and we also accept financing from CareCredit.

Will I Need a Retainer After Treatment?

As with any form of orthodontic treatment, you’ll need to wear a retainer afterward to keep your teeth in their attractive new positions. Our dentists can advise you on the best type of retainer and how often to wear it to maintain your results. Wearing the retainer at night may be all that’s needed.
