The Widespread Problem Of Dental Anxiety
As many as 1 in 5 Americans fear visiting the dentist for one reason or another. Maybe you had a bad experience with a dentist as a child. Or perhaps the sounds and smells of dental offices put you on edge. Or maybe it doesn’t have anything to do with the dental treatment itself but instead is related to embarrassment over your smile.
Regardless of the source of your dental anxiety, it can lead to complications with your smile down the road. Even if you maintain exemplary oral hygiene habits at home, decay can hide in difficult-to-reach areas. Without quick action, a little cavity may grow and become more severe, requiring a root canal instead of a simple tooth-colored filling.
At Houston Uptown Dentists, we understand that patients can’t be expected to just “get over” dental anxiety. We will do everything we can to make you more comfortable. And we’re a no-judgment zone, so you don’t have to worry about feeling embarrassed or guilty about any of your dental problems. We’re here to help!
Friendly Team, Cozy Setting, Comfort Options
No, you didn’t walk into a spa by mistake – that’s just the relaxing atmosphere we’ve cultivated at our premier dental office. Instead of the clinical linoleum and uncomfortable chairs you might be used to at other dentists, we have decorated our office to feel both homey and elegant.

Or, if you’d prefer a more immersive entertainment experience, we can also provide 3-D video glasses equipped with Netflix. You can watch your favorite shows or movies while we improve your smile! We’ll even save your spot so you can pick back up where you left off when you return for your next visit with us!

Dental Sedation Options To Help You Relax
Whether you’re coming in for a routine dental cleaning and exam or a full-mouth reconstruction, we can make your visit more pleasant with the help of dental sedation. Because every patient and every case of dental anxiety is unique, we offer three different options for dental sedation.
Depending on your particular situation and concerns, we can even combine sedation options for your optimum comfort. Our dentists and team members have been thoroughly trained in safely and effectively administering sedation for our patients.
Nitrous oxide, more commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a safe gas mixture that patients inhale through a small mask. Within moments, you will feel a mild euphoria as your tension melts away. The effects wear off almost as fast as they take hold, so you should be able to resume your normal activities as soon as you leave our office.
We can also prescribe oral conscious sedation. You will take the pill at a predetermined time before your appointment, so you can arrive at our office fully relaxed. You will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you to and from our Houston, TX dental office.
IV sedation is the strongest form of dental sedation we offer. You will feel its effects immediately and will most likely not even remember your treatment. We will carefully monitor you and control your dosage. Like oral conscious sedation, you will need a ride to and from your appointment.
